Gensler's top-notch design team has led the renovation of 1 Soho Square, a structural and titular agglutination of 161 Avenue of the Americas and 233 Spring Street. The redevelopment and design overhaul is poised to embody the buildings' mix of residential, commercial, and retail space: a mix. The overall design is a clash between modernistic and industrial Soho themes; a gray and silver concrete and metal space adorned with angular, futuristic stylings meets sustainable, green wall and contrastingly bright walls of art.
Crafting a cab interior to meet this project's overarching need to find consistency in a total lack thereof, and to freeze visual elements of the neighborhood's hustle and bustle in time, requires a team of visual experts: craftsmen, technicians, and designers. National has once again answered the call with a cab interior full of simple components and a captivating whole. Walls of mirroring panels in the cabs are illuminated by a spillage of white light from the extruded ceilings; meanwhile, reflections downward are drowned by an encroaching density of soft white pointillism.
